Which is Bulgaria’s destination of excellence?
Which will be the Bulgarian destination of excellence in 2009? The Bulgarians will find out in mid-May, when the results of the nationwide 952 - Nature Welcomes You contest will be announced. At present there are 10 finalists in the standings for most picturesque site with unspoiled nature, preserved biodiversity and huge potential for tourism development. The competition is held under the European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) project, whose ongoing third stage is mottoed “Tourism and Protected Areas”. Bulgaria has a total of 952 protected areas, hence this number in the contest motto.
